Raw Material is an award-winning, independent producing company based in Glasgow, Scotland, founded by Margaret-Anne O’Donnell and Gillian Garrity. Since its inception in 2018, Raw Material has produced and toured theatre productions of varying scales across Scotland, Europe, Brazil, China, South Korea, Australia, and the USA, performing to over 50,000 audiences. Their diverse portfolio includes productions such as "James IV: Queen of the Fight" by Rona Munro, a co-production with Capital Theatres in association with the National Theatre of Scotland, and "The Stamping Ground," a musical featuring the songs of Runrig, co-produced with Eden Court Highlands.

Founders' Backgrounds

Margaret-Anne O’Donnell and Gillian Garrity bring extensive experience to Raw Material. O’Donnell's background includes arts management, venue and company leadership, and producing for the National Theatre of Scotland, where she was involved in productions like "The James Plays" by Rona Munro and "Black Watch" by Gregory Burke. Garrity has produced work with various venues, companies, and festivals, including Vanishing Point and the Arches in Glasgow.

Recent and Upcoming Projects

In 2024, Raw Material continued Rona Munro’s renowned James Plays with "James V: Katherine," a standalone production that toured Scotland from April to June. This production was a co-production with Capital Theatres, further exemplifying their commitment to bringing vivid historical drama to contemporary audiences.
