Two Types of Feedback for Actors
There are two types of feedback for actors; scene specific feedback and technique specific feedback. If you wish to become a better actor, you must seek technique specific feedback. If you want that scene to be better, you should ask for scene specific feedback.
Often in acting class, you receive scene specific feedback. I’m afraid to tell you that this is not much use to you in developing your acting skills. Scene specific feedback will not teach you to be a better actor, it will teach you to resolve individual scene related issues.
Every scene presents its own challenges. But the challenge of mastering your technique of acting is a continuous and ongoing process. If you want to become a better actor, you need to seek the kind of training and opportunities that will develop your acting skills, not only develop your ability to play individual scenes.
The reason is simple. Develop scene skills, and you will learn to tackle problems related to that scene, develop your acting skills and you will learn to tackle ALL scenes.
