Tip #3: Safety First—Protect Yourself at Auditions

Auditions can feel like first dates—exciting, full of potential, but sometimes nerve-wracking. Just as you’d prioritise safety when meeting someone new, it’s crucial to take steps to protect yourself when attending in-person auditions. Your wellbeing always comes first, no matter how much you want the role.

Smart Safety Tips for Auditions

  1. Let People Know Where You Are: Identify three trusted contacts who can be your "audition safety team." Before heading to any audition that feels even slightly uncertain, let at least one of them know where you’re going and when you expect to return. Keep the other two as backups in case your primary contact isn’t available.

  2. Stay Alert: Always ensure your phone is fully charged and ready for use. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and don’t hesitate to leave. It’s better to be cautious than to take unnecessary risks.

  3. Vet the Opportunity: Be especially cautious with auditions that come from unsolicited messages on social media or platforms you don’t recognise. Legitimate opportunities typically come through agents, casting calls, or established platforms. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

What to Watch For

  • Auditions held in unprofessional spaces (like private residences) without clear justification.

  • Big promises without credible evidence or references.

  • Requests that make you uncomfortable, whether it’s related to what you’re asked to perform or the location itself.

Your Wellbeing Matters

Taking risks is part of acting, but never when it comes to your personal safety. By putting these safeguards in place, you can approach every audition with confidence and focus on what really matters—your performance.
