Giving it Away Too Soon

When you speak, you do not generally know what you are going to say.

You have an idea of your intention, but do not know until the moment of actual utterance what you are saying.

With a script this is not the case, you DO know what’s coming.

And because of this, because you understand where it’s going, you play the entire scene like the end is coming.

Instead, you should maintain the sense of surprise, stay in the moment of the words as they come out of you, not rushing towards the ‘finish’ line.

Don’t give it away until that moment. Think of the joke, although you are telling a joke, you do not give away the punch line until the end.

Yes, everything serves the punch line, but if you give it away too soon, it will not be funny for listener.

It’s the same with any script you play. Don’t give it away too easily, don’t give it away too soon.
