Don’t Apply for Drama School
Don’t.
Don’t apply for drama school.
Don’t waste your money on auditioning for drama school either.
Don’t do it.
Not unless you really want it.
The thing is, you probably won’t get in. The odds are not in your favour. Your chances of getting in first time are very very low. Of course, people do get in on their first attempt at auditioning for drama school, but they are relatively few and far between.
I know fabulous actors that took 4 or 6 attempts to get into their preferred course, Dustin Hoffman famously took 9 attempts to enter the Actors Studio. He hasn’t done too badly out of it. Still, he has some fairly unfavourable things to say about the training he received.
It may take you many many attempts.
If you perceive failure to get in as a reflection of your own self worth, your own ability, or your ability to become a successful working actor, you will suffer horribly.
If you set your goal of training at an accredited drama school as a marathon and not a sprint, you will stand a much better chance of reaching the overall goal.
So if it takes 5 years of applying, so what? It will be worth it.
But don’t apply.
Not if you’re going to give up after your first try. Don’t waste your time and money.
Still want to go?
Good.
