Destroying Obstacles
They say failing to plan is planning to fail. I’ve always liked that. Cos I’m terrible at planning. Until I realised how much future pain it could prevent. Then I got really into it, and now.. well, I’m okay with it. If you’ve been reading the last few blogs, then go ahead and read on, but if not, it might be worth heading back to Sunday’s blog and reading from there onwards.
So, you’ve made all sorts of lists by now. And if you’ve followed my advice, you’ve already done something TODAY to get you a step closer to one of the smaller goals or tasks on your lists.
Take a look at the list of 20 things you could do that would bring you closer to your overall goal. On a fresh page, write the 20 out again, but this time, leave 5 spaces under each one.
In each space, write 5 problems or obstacles that you can imagine might prevent you getting your smaller goals achieved. Spend some time, use that creative imagination to think through the worst scenario that might stop you. Now it’s okay to be pragmatic, don’t imagine Darth Vader is coming to stop you, but what if you lost your job, what if you got pregnant, what if the agent doesn’t respond to your email, what if you live 50 miles from the nearest theatre?
Do that for each of the small goals and you’ll have a LOT of reasons why you can’t succeed.
Now Give Up.
I’m not joking. Because if you don’t want to pay the price, you may as well give up now. It’s easier now than later, and you won’t waste the energy. Go full time in your admin, teaching, desk, whatever job, there’s no shame in it and enjoy your life.
Still with me?
Okay, take a look at the first chunk of 5 obstacles and use the power of your creative mind to DESTROY these obstacles. See around them, use Google, phone a friend, email me or whatever, but OBLITERATE these obstacles. Some of them may never come up, that’s true. But guess what you will do if they do arise? YOU WILL DESTROY THEM. You won’t bitch and moan and whine. You’ll stand up to them, look them in the eye (or the stomach if they’re really big) and kick them in the balls.
Now you’re psychologically prepared for obstacles along the way, you know it’s going to happen, you know you can fight them. Now they won’t have anywhere near the same amount of power over you.
Do this obstacle obliteration exercise every day to one of you
