Achieving Your Goals – A Little More Help
If you’ve been reading the blog since last Sunday, you may continue, but if you haven’t, I advise you to click here and go and read from the beginning of these latest few blogs.
Over the last few days I’ve asked you to do a few things. A few of you will have done it. Some of you will have thought about it. Many of you will have done nothing. That’s okay, and if you’re happy with your current life and career, there’s no need to take any actions to achieve your goals. But if you want to start achieving more, if you want to get out of your rut, or if you’re just starting out and want a point of departure, go back and do the exercises from the previous days.
I want to help, so I’m making it even easier! Look:
First – Fill in the Life is Not a Rehearsal Grid. Now look at the grid. Still got time to fanny around? Cool, catch you at the beach. No? Continue… What are you filling those little squares with? Particularly THIS Week? Every square gone is gone forever. What are you colouring those square in with? What actions are you taking towards your goals?
Next – You Need to Decide On Your Major Goal (Let’s Say It’s To Become A FREQUENTLY (think Pareto 80/20) Working Professional Actor by March 2013.
Now – I have created a THE MAJOR GOAL AND ACTION SHEET*. Write your GOAL and DATE at the top and then 20 actions you are going to take to achieve that goal. The first 5 are easy, the next 10 are challenging, the last 5 are damned hard, but if you fully complete this, you will have a remarkable sense of achievement already! You’re on the right track, now keep going…
Achievement feels good. Not only that, but achievement spurs on to more achievement. When you take actions towards your goal, you will feel a small sense of achievement and you will like yourself for it, you will be proud of the actions that you have taken and this will boost your self-esteem and self-confidence leading you to take more actions towards your goal.
The NEXT PART is really important. Download this DAILY TASK SHEET and complete it. You see, you must do something every day towards your goal. Habit is extremely powerful. They’re hard to start and they’re hard to break. But once you have habits, that’s you made. Take a look at the DAILY TASK SHEET and your GOAL AND ACTION SHEET.
Put the Date at the Top of the DAILY TASK SHEET and Now Write Down a TASK, something you can do TODAY towards one of your SPECIFIC GOALS. Put the number of the ACTION from your GOAL AND ACTION SHEET that your task corresponds with, in the blank space on the DAILY TASK SHEET. When you have 5, put the list somewhere you will see it tomorrow morning and pick it up and take it with you wherever you go, set about achieving those tasks as you go about your day. Don’t have time? Toilet breaks. Travel time. Time when you decided to watch the telly.
Now stop making excuses. You may need a little self denial, but if you’re going to succeed, you will need SELF DISCIPLINE.
Elbert Hubbard said that self-discipline was the ability to make yourself do what you should do, when you should do it,whether you feel like it or not.†That last bit is the most important. At the end of each day. Fill out a new DAILY TASK SHEET with the small tasks that you can complete towards some of you 20 ACTIONS and pick it up in the morning.
Strike Them Off As You Complete Each Task with Satisfaction. Then Place the Sheet Where You Can See It. At the End of the Week, You Should Have 7 COMPLETED SHEETS. You should have done 35 TASKS TOWARDS THE ACTIONS THAT WILL HELP YOU TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL. Now go back to your GOAL AND ACTION SHEET and place a TICK for every TASK you’ve taken towards that particular ACTION. Are some looking a little bit bare? Then, next week, it’s time to focus on those actions you haven’t provided with tasks.
That’s the last of these motivational blogs for a while, we’re back onto acting from tomorrow. However, if you’re struggling with any of this and you want to email me about it, feel free to email studiodirector@actingcoachscotland.co.uk. I want to help! Good Luck my friends, I know you can do it. Think of the power of one MONTH of doing this. Over 140 TASKS COMPLETED TOWARDS YOUR GOAL.
You’re TITANIUM. Now Get to Work.
