Showmanship

Showmanship

Showmanship?

Stop showing.

It’s really easy to get caught up in the ‘showmanship’ element of acting. A lot of actors are too busy focusing on showing the audience that they are doing a tactic or feeling an emotion instead of actually doing something to the other person.

This comes from the need to prove to the audience that we are good at what we do. ‘’Look at me, I can act.’’

Let go of ‘showmanship’, you’ve got something to achieve from the other person. Go out there and actually do all that you can to get it from them.

Stop wasting your energy showing and trying to prove to the audience that you are a ‘good’ actor. If you are expressing yourself truthfully they will make that judgement for themselves.

Best,
