Janet Lawson is a professional fight arranger and a Certified Teacher with the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat (BASSC). Janet teaches Stage Combat at Acting Coach Scotland
She grew up in Glasgow and studied English and Drama at Glasgow University before moving to London.
She was the stage combat teacher at Stratford Circus, East London and has taught at drama schools, colleges and schools in London and SE England including The City Literary Institute and The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She has taught regularly at the British National Stage Combat Workshop and the BASSC “Lion” and “Empire” workshops in London.
She returned to Glasgow in 2013. She runs classes and workshops throughout Scotland and has also taught in Tenerife, Germany and the USA. She has been appointed to the teaching faculty of the World Stage Combat Conference to be held in Toronto, Canada in August 2016.
She provides professional level stage combat training including industry recognised courses leading to certification by the BASSC.
Recent fight arranging work includes Hamlet for Folksy Theatre, Such Stuff as Dreams are Made On for Edinburgh Acting School, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for East Ayrshire Youth Theatre, Jenufa for Scottish Opera and Ipheginie in Tauris for Byre Opera.
